The Goldendoodle Breed: Brains + Beauty

Have you ever seen a Goldendoodle or know what the Goldendoodle breed looks like?  If so, you have probably thought to yourself, what a beautiful dog!  This is so true! The mix of poodle and golden retriever combine to make the Goldendoodle breed one of the world’s most majestic, beautiful and handsome breeds.  Standard, mini, white, golden, brown, chocolate, or mix, they are hands down spectacular in appearance.

What I bet you did not know is how smart the golden doodle is!  The golden doodle brain and its ability to perceive, obey and retain a command at a very young age (eight weeks old or younger) will truly amaze you!  The golden doodle is a “treat” to train as they understand and obey (most often) in an instant.

One perfect example I can give you from my own personal experience.  When our mini Goldendoodle “Ruby” was only eight weeks old (we had just had her home for a day) and were outside teaching her to potty train.)  Living in a townhome complex at the time, when it was time to go inside, I simply snapped my finger and said to her “Ruby, go home”.  I rewarded her with a small portion of her food when we returned that first time.  Then every time after that she headed straight for our door.  She would stop and perch herself on the doorstep, aware that this was home.  This was amazing to me.  She is 11 months old now and I still use that command when it is time to head home.  Ruby heads for home every single time without issue.

The key to training a Goldendoodle is consistency. The Goldendoodle is so brilliant that training is easy.  Another example of the great mind of the Goldendoodle is that if trained properly you can teach them to sit before a meal and not start their meal until commanded.  This may sound crazy as humans are always so ready to eat!  If you think about that for just a minute, this shows not only a brilliant mind, but willpower as well.  Like most dogs the Goldendoodle starves for attention.  This trait along with their sweet manner makes them especially fun to be with.

The sharp mind of the Goldendoodle signals when you are ready to engage but also allows them to differentiate when you are not.  They listen and heed well.  The quick thinking Goldendoodle will sit, shake, lay down, roll over and spin from the time they are 8-9 weeks old with very little training. The key is to spend the time coaching them up at an early age, not worrying that they are too young to train.  You will be surprised how quickly they understand and respond!

To enter the beautiful mind of the Goldendoodle is to enter a world of intrigue and insightfulness. Their beauty and charm put them at the next level when it comes to a breed pet owners strive to find.

Let’s examine the beauty of the Goldendoodle.  There are several extraordinary traits that make the doodle one of the most sought-after and beautiful breeds.  The course and curly hair is the most unique trait.  The texture and color of the Goldendoodle’s coat is so widely varied across the board but the fact that Goldendoodles are for the most part hypoallergenic makes them the best bet for a great pet for anyone with pet allergies.  Keeping the Goldendoodle coat shiny and healthy is only a matter of bathing once per week and brushing every day.  When you take your doodle out on adventures you will be ever so happy when you receive sweet compliments about the beauty and elegance of your Goldendoodle love.  People just love the breed anyway but when you take the time to train your “brains of the operation” and groom them often they are the best new friend makers and awesome conversation starters!

The Goldendoodle – beauty and brains all in one package! What more could a pet lover ask for? Enough said.
